"Why It’s Important to Take Care of Your Braces"

You’ve taken the time to consider braces, have them put on, and want your treatment completed in a conservative time frame. There’s another important step that needs to be taken, and it takes a daily commitment that you can’t do without: daily home care.

The dreaded “white circles.”

Taking care of your braces on a daily basis will keep your breath fresher, prevent heavy plaque buildup, and ensure there are no “white circles” on your teeth once your braces are removed. What are these white circles? They are areas of demineralized enamel, and the very beginning of tooth decay.

White circles are caused by bacterial plaque resting around the brackets on your teeth. All people develop plaque between meals, but some make more than others. This buildup must be completely removed each day to prevent the acids from eroding the enamel surface.

Cleaning around your brackets and wires

It’s important to have the tools and techniques you need to keep your teeth clean, because a toothbrush isn’t always enough. You’ll need to know how to get even the smallest amounts of buildup between the teeth and on the sides of the brackets to prevent these permanent scars from developing.

Our patients are given options when it comes to cleaning their teeth. There’s no one-way that’s right for everyone! We have access to several everyday oral hygiene aids that can help patients prevent unwanted plaque buildup, keep their teeth cavity free, and prevent white circles from forming. Some examples include water   flossers ,proxa-brushes, floss-threaders , and electric toothbrushes. Daily home fluoride can repel decay and strengthen areas that may already be in the early demineralization process.

Investing in orthodontic treatment is something that will change your smile and your life. Take the steps you need to keep your teeth healthy and give you the results you want.
